Отзывы на « My 5 minute journal.

WHAT BEING TWENTY IS LIKE
(english version is available below)
он тоже пользуется the five minute journal.
i mentioned that i had finally started using the five minute journal on a regular basis in my october good things list. today i would like to tell you about it a bit more. maybe you have already tried to use it, but then lost your enthusiasm, or maybe you would like to start, but have no clue what to write in it. whereas if you do not even know what i am talking about right now, but you would like to lead a more mindful way of life, as well as feel gratitude for everything your life consists of, this post might be interesting for you as well.
so how do i use my five minute journal?
1. i am grateful for. (three points)
i am grateful for a kitchenette in my room.
i am grateful for hot tea with milk.
i am grateful for the opportunity to drink it without any rush.
there are other days, when i feel lonely, because i live in a different country, where i do not have any close friends. if there is a long to-do list and you are busy, you do not have the time to think about it. however, when there are too many complications or you do not feel well, and there is no one who could be by your side to support you and take care of you, that is when it gets bad. that is when i write:
i am grateful for my family.
i am grateful for my people who are always with me despite being far away.
i am grateful for the internet and the opportunity to be in touch all the time.
all three aspects often relate to one particular subject, but that is not required, and i do not always do it that way. in general, i suggest looking around and analyzing what makes your day better today in order to then formulate gratitude for it. this simple action of writing these ideas down is actually very powerful, and it will make your feelings stronger, which is important. the more you write about gratitude, the more you will experience it. each of us has enough reasons to be grateful, but we often forget about them and think that our lives do not have anything good in them.
2. what would make today great? (three points)
this is where i write what i would like to do during the day, despite having a separate notebook for all of my to-do lists, as well as a weekly planner, where i make notes of my plans for each day. i feel that by distinguishing three priorities for the day and then writing them down in this part of the five minute journal, i prepare myself for accomplishing these small goals. i usually write:
writing a new article.
studying at the library.
i never write events that do not depend on me here, and i think this is an important moment. when we wake up, we know nothing about our upcoming day, our health state and our mood, the weather and the way people will behave themselves with us. none of the aforementioned depends on us, but we do control what we do and what we do not do. i believe it is crucially important to always remember about it.
3. daily affirmations. i am. (two points)
i assume that this part is the least clear of all, which results into numerous questions. the process of writing these affirmations is an opportunity for me to remind myself what kind of person i would like to become. the truth is that such changes are complicated, and they take a lot of time, but the required effort is totally worth it. also, the responsibility is on us only, so we can only change if we do what is necessary for it. no one else can do it for us. life is not easy. something is always happening: this problem or that, when one aspect is fine, the other one is falling part and then back and forth. you can do nothing about it, you cannot avoid it or make this process stop. however, you are capable of constantly working on yourself, getting stronger and better, getting used to the world as it is. this is why i usually write:
i am patient and persistent.
i can change and become better.
it seems likes these two points have two more in them, but i can explain why i chose to write my affirmations in this particular way. i am a very impatient person by nature. my head is full of bright dreams, whereas my whole being is ready to do whatever it takes to get what i want. the reality is that this combination is not enough, because on top of it you need time. i believe that it is impossible to achieve anything truly worthy without patiently making a lot of effort. so, the first point is about that, whereas the second touches upon my self-doubt. i think a lot and often torture myself, wondering whether what i do is good enough, whether i myself am good enough. sometimes there is no end to this self-loathing, but it is impossible to live this way, so it is very important to remind myself that i can change and become better.
therefore, before writing these affirmations, i recommend thinking about the kind of person you would like to be today. maybe you had a fight with someone yesterday, because you were not patient enough or maybe you had an important task to deal with, but you left it untouched because of laziness. if that is the case, you can write: i am a patient human being capable of controlling my emotions and my behavior. i am productive and i can do what is important today.
when i am done with these three parts, i put my tiny notebook away and i start my day. i go back to my five minute journal right before going to bed.
4. three amazing things that happened today
first of all, when i get to this part, i use the same approach that i have already mentioned in the second part. i only write about things that depend on me. i write about the things that i have done, not the events that have happened to me. secondly, it is important to understand that there are good days and there are bad days. it is natural for all of us no matter who we are, where we live and what we do. people who have good days only do not exist, but each of us has good days. finally, it is important to keep in mind that we are always capable of making any day slightly better despite the circumstances. i am not saying that it is possible to get rid of a problem or a trouble, but you can always do something to help yourself feel a little better. where am i going with this? on a good day, this is what my answers look like:
i wrote a new article.
i explored the city and i enjoyed it.
i did yoga and i went to the gym.
on a bad day, this is what my answers look like:
i dealt with a huge disappointment.
i spent a day productively.
i read a book in the evening.
i am not insane, i do not think that there is anything great about a huge disappointment, but i do think that i deserve pointing out that i have managed to deal with and have left the distress in the day that is almost over. moreover, i was able to pull myself together, to make an effort, to have a productive day despite bad news and negative emotions. i used to be incapable of doing any of it. i used to face a disappointment and then start feeling sorry for myself. i would then spend the rest of the day feeling very low and doing nothing about it. experience has proven that there is no use of doing so. this is why i try to distract myself and to focus on doing things that depend on me. when i am done, i read, because reading calms me down, helps me forget all my worries and lets my mind have some good rest. i think that we should all explore ourselves and discover such an activity that would have this effect in order to do it for a brief period of time every single day no matter what.
5. how could i have made today better?
this is a great question that i have missed for some reason. when i realized it, i decided to skip it, but i do think about the answer, so i will share a few options with you:
by checking instagram less.
by dedicating more time to what is truly important.
by finding the time and energy to do some sport.
i would like to point out that when you answer this question, you should not be harsh towards yourself. do not criticize yourself! just think what you should have done differently to learn the lesson today and avoid the same mistake tomorrow. then i put my notebook aside, i listen to a meditation in the breathe app and i fall asleep.
you may think that the five minute journal is a foolish idea, and you won`t even try. maybe you got inspired today, so you will try, but just a few times, because any practice requires patience. or maybe you will keep on doing until a tough day comes, when the «three amazing things that happened today» part will sound like an insult. for all of these reasons and every other, i would like to say that i enjoy writing in the five minute journal, because it gives my day a clear structure, it encourages me to think about things that truly matter and it guides me in the right direction. i see that it helps me feel better and become better, which is why i recommend you giving the five minute journal a try.
if you need more information, read this post and then this one. when you click the second link, you will discover a lengthy video, in which the co-founders of the five minute journal explain how to use their creation in details. by the way, have you ever heard of tim ferriss? well, he has been using the five minute journal for years now. watch this video if you would like to found out more about his routine and his experience of using the five minute journal.
